Since its creation in Aberdeen in 1989, consultancy group IGL embarked upon a journey of continuous growth through following its core strategic path of growing profitable relationships. In starting out, the founding directors saw a niche in the market for high quality process engineering services, providing FEED expertise and operational support to the UK North Sea operators. Today, these services are offered around the globe - but the elements of the service and the standard at which it is delivered remain core to the business. They have culminated in a reputation of which the team is proud.
With this strong foundation planted in the best-practice culture of the North Sea operating environment, the company drew upon its reputation for excellence and reliability to explore greater opportunities, opening the Perth office in February 1997. Global presence in strategic locations was bolstered further when the Stavanger office was launched in August 2000, strengthening IGL's capability in the North Sea and Europe. Additionally, in August 2001 IGL set up the Kuala Lumpur office to further penetrate the SE Asia market.
The Kuala Lumpur office in Malaysia, provides its clients a broad range of expertise, exposing its consultants to a variety of technically-challenging assignments on some of the region's premier projects. Examples include project management consulting for Nippon's Layang Field Development through to production optimization for Talisman and Murphy Oil. The KL office is pivotal to the success of the organisation’s oil & gas business in the Asia-Pacific region.
In May 2006 the next chapter in the organisation’s growth unfolded as the directors proactively researched and targeted a parent company to acquire the business and facilitate further expansion. Central to the decision making was clear recognition of aligned values – the principal qualities the companies held dear in their engagement with their employees, clients and approach to business. The Finnish company Pöyry was identified as demonstrating both the strategic direction and values alignment that would marry well with the culture of IGL and its future ambitions. Through these exciting joining-of-forces, IGL now joins a global capability of over 7000 multidiscipline professionals across 45 countries – spanning projects in not only the energy sector, but also forestry, transportation, infrastructure and the environment. Moving forward under the Pöyry brand, the organisation will expand its service offering to its oil & gas clients by growing the strong, established reputation in process engineering to cover all discipline areas – a complete multidiscipline FEED solution.
Pöyry is unique in having this breadth of expertise, whilst still remaining responsive and flexible in meeting our clients’ needs. Our people are the key to our strong performance so far, and will underpin future success. Through variety, technical challenge and a clearly-defined development path, they have the opportunity to enjoy the journey of rising to the challenge in this dynamic industry. As we look forward, we are excited by the rewards that are in sight.
